When Bak Kut Teh Meets West...

For those who ate Bak Kut Teh (who doesn't?) before, they are simply dime a dozen. But what about the fast food version of Bak Kut Teh? I'm talking none others than J Tean Kitchen's J-Pork Burger.  Located at the Lot G 58, SStwo Mall, No. 40, Jalan SS2/72, I first encountered this unique fusion of Bak Kut Teh pork burger through my friend's recommendation, which I personally found it a very interesting concept.

Priced at a reasonable RM7.90 which also includes some potato wedges, the pork patty in J-Pork Burger is quite thick. But upon my first bite, I found out the taste of Bak Kut Teh which is marinated inside the pork patty is rather bland for my liking. In fact, it seems that the pork patty overpowers the supposedly aromatic blend of Bak Kut Teh altogether. Lack of balance, I must say.

Although it isn't particularly mouth-watering as I would have thought at the first place, this J-Pork Burger remains a good try (at least once) for those who have bored of the usual burger commonly found in fast food chain.

MADO Ice Cream!

Tagged as "The World's Best Ice Cream", Turkey's leading ice cream company, MADO has finally made its way to our local shores where you can find a shop outside Bukit Bintang Kuala Lumpur.

Being an ice cream lover myself, I was very curious about MADO since it's the kind of ice cream you don't get to taste anyway. I mean, the ice cream here are made from goat milk! So I give myself a try whether MADO is really worth the "World's Best Ice Cream" tagline or not.

Well, what I find in the menu for the ice cream selection, are luxuriously priced than the one you get from, say, Baskin Robbins. So I picked "Ice Cream My Way" where I can choose 4 flavors with a topping of your choice. I seriously spoilt with choice, thinking which flavors I opted to try and ended up picking Mango, Pumpkin, Chocolate Chips, and Blackberry with a chocolate topping.

Upon indulging my first scoop of the ice cream, I find out the texture is kind of chewy and sticky, which is of course, might alienated those casual ice cream lovers who used to creamy types. At first  I admit it takes a while to admire such different texture in this ice cream, but the natural (and especially those fruity) flavors are really something that ignites my taste buds. Another good thing about this ice cream is that they hardly melt like most ice cream do. As good as this ice cream is, the 4-scoop of "Ice Cream My Way" costs me a (somewhat overpriced) RM26.00. But at least it's worth a try for its uniqueness of MADO ice cream.

HOT-STAR LARGE FRIED CHICKEN is REALLY large!

Until now, when comes to enjoy Taiwan's street snacks in Malaysia, there's none others than "Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks". And I didn't know there's a new kid on the block called "Hot-Star Large Fried Chicken", which has open an outlet here at 57, Jalan SS15/8A, Subang Jaya last December and a recent one at Level 1, Pavilion KL near Food Republic.

Apparently my brother told me that his colleague said this among the most popular Taiwan's street snacks is a must try, and so here I am finally get my taste bud working whether it's really worth all the buzz or not.

And so I've tried the Combo A, which is the "Signature and Best Seller Hot-Star Fried Chicken". The fried chicken looks similar like Shihlin's highly-popular XXL Crispy Chicken, but I find out that this Hot-Star version offers a bigger size than I ever imagined.

The Combo A set comes with a large fried chicken and a drink (either you can choose a can of Season's Ice Lemon Tea or a bottle of mineral water at a reasonable price of RM9.65), where you can choose your fried chicken to be seasoned either "original", "little spicy", "medium spicy" or "extra spicy". Well, I try the "original" anyway.

The good news is, the fried chicken is only done upon ordering but I also find out the service is slow. I've waited about 10 minutes for my meal to be done.

Upon having my first bite at this "signature" fried chicken, I kinda like it because it's less oily but the major gripe about this fried chicken is they really put a lot of seasoning powder that makes me feels awfully thirsty. Not even that can of Season's Ice Lemon Tea can quench my thirst. So be mindful that you seriously needs to drink A LOT OF WATER when eating this fried chicken!

Overall, the "signature" fried chicken is quite recommendable. Nothing really special though, but for that kind of large-sized fried chicken, it's still worth trying.
